Smithfield Guesthouse enjoys a central location that guests find convenient for exploring the Orkney Mainland, with Stromness and Kirkwall being a short drive away. Many guests appreciate the spacious and comfortable rooms, some noting they could be slightly dated. Breakfast is generally regarded as lovely and plentiful, sometimes even offered as a packed meal for early departures; however, the guesthouse does not have a restaurant or bar, requiring some guests to seek dining options elsewhere or purchase items from the supermarket opposite.

security cameras speakerphone activation
The breakfast offered many options. It was quite satisfying. Its central location allowed easy access to the island.
The staff was hard to reach. Upon my late arrival for check-in, nobody was present. After a while, security cameras detected my presence in the reception area. Someone then activated a speakerphone. The owner arrived on a Vespa minutes later.

closed restaurant unmanned night
i was a bit disappointed to find no evening meals were available , despite initial expectations. this meant i had to find alternative dining options elsewhere , which was inconvenient. also , the lack of staff on site at night made me a little uneasy. customers were responsible for locking the front door , something i didn't expect from a guesthouse.

Fantastic Stay! Highly Recommended!

perfect location super clean room easy parking
The location is perfect! Major archaeological sites are a short drive away. My room was super clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I found easy parking just outside the building. There's even a chemist, a shop, and petrol pumps nearby!
I found that the furnishings seemed somewhat dated. There wasn't a lot of space in the room. The bathroom could use some attention to the shower controls.
Dining
9/10
Breakfast service was fantastic and efficient! I saw a member of staff working alone. She was quickly handling the whole breakfast service. It lasted me through the day. It was a fantastic start to each morning.
