Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
The St Columba Hotel enjoys a fantastic location near the Abbey, making it ideal for exploring. Guests particularly appreciate the lounge area, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning sea views, and the convenience of having bags transported from the ferry. The restaurant is another highlight, with some guests singling out the superb vegan and vegetarian options, including salad leaves sourced from the hotel's own vegetable garden; however, a few guests have noted that some rooms are rather basic. The Larder store across the road allows guests to create picnic baskets to take on walks to places like the Bay at the Back of the Ocean or on a trip to Staffa.

adequate stay, some drawbacks

faulty shower thin walls
My stay had some issues. The room was quite noisy. I could hear every footstep from the room above. The bathroom was quite basic, and the shower did not drain easily. A fan was not working. It got very stuffy. I also found only a hand towel and a medium towel provided per person..

Staff took great care of my bags from the ferry to my room. Lunch in the garden was nice.
The room felt quite dark. It only had a small window. The bedding REALLY needed an upgrade, especially the pillows. The room felt dated overall.

helpful staff sea view raw potatoes plant based options
the staff was very helpful in collecting our bags. they delivered them right to our room, a great help. i booked a sea view room, but the sea was only visible when standing.
the food seemed average and a bit inconsistent to me. chicken was excellent, but potatoes were raw. i thought there were too many plant-based options for my taste, and not enough vegetables served with meals.

Excellent Stay with Great Views and Service

helpful staff sea view central location
My daughter and I stayed in a twin room for three nights. The location is a short walk to the abbey (about three minutes). The staff transported our bags from the ferry to the hotel and back, very helpful. The lounge area had floor-to-ceiling windows with views out to sea.
The room was quiet but rather dark, because the window was small. It faced the inner yard and the access to it was through the common areas (meaning, not directly from the hallway).
Facilities
9/10
The hotel offered bag transport from and to the ferry terminal. A great lounge area with floor-to-ceiling windows and sea views created a relaxed space. Guests could enjoy coffee served by the staff while reading.
Rooms
8/10
We stayed in a twin room that included an en suite bathroom. The room faced an inner yard, quiet. The window, albeit small, offered sufficient natural light.
Location
10/10
The hotel is conveniently located just a ten-minute walk from the ferry terminal. The abbey is also very close (it's about a three-minute walk). This proximity makes it easy to explore local attractions.
